Joy Li

Middle School Social Studies Teacher, Grade 6 Head Teacher, Advisor

Graduated with a bachelor's degree in World History from the School of History at Wuhan University, and later pursued a graduate degree in Comparative Education. Volunteered as a teacher in Africa for a year, which sowed the seed of dedication to education. With 11 years of teaching experience, she served at Beijing Royal School and the Sino-American Program of the International Department at Beijing Huiwen Middle School. She had also held the position of head of the Social Science Group in the junior high school section of Beijing Royal School, focusing on the development of the IB-MYP curriculum system.

Served as the head of grade six and a social science teacher for grade six at the junior high school department of Moonshot Academy. As the grade head, she is primarily responsible for coordinating the overall affairs of the grade, leading the advisors team to coordinate and support the personalized needs of learners, as well as the overall moral development and academic growth of grade six students. As the lower grade segment of the junior high stage, she believes that grade six learners require more emotional and affective stability support, which poses a significant challenge for educators.

She harbors a strong curiosity and thirst for knowledge regarding the implementation of competency education and the application of emerging educational technologies in her work. She aspires to delve deeper into areas such as feminism and lifelong learning.

In her personal life, she enjoys watching movies and practicing yoga.

How to enjoy learning

Disciplines/Subjects: Interdisciplinary projects Key Themes: Communication and cooperation, Creative expression, Social Awareness & Community Engagement, empathy This project focuses on the design thinking workshop, through the investigation of students' learning styles and environments in different cultural backgrounds, designs prototypes to solve practical learning problems, tests and iterates, and finally realizes the purpose of "enjoying learning" through students' own efforts. The project is divided into two parts: on-campus workshops and off-campus practice investigations, with design thinking as the main activity in campus and off-campus practice visits to Langde Primary School in Leishan County, Guizhou Province.The children carried out in-depth interaction and communication activities with the same grade students of Langde Primary School.

Research on Zheng He's Voyages to the Western Oceans

Disciplines/Subjects: Social Science Key Themes: Maritime Exploration, Cultural Exchange, Argumentative writing, Historical Reflection, Multiple Perspectives and Expression This project takes "Zheng He's Voyages to the Western Oceans" as its theme, allowing learners to explore the significance and impact of this historical event from different perspectives through four sub-tasks. They will assume the roles of historical participants, creating voyage logs to express their experiences and feelings during the voyages; write letters to Emperor Yongle from multiple perspectives, reflecting on the purpose and value of the expeditions; produce video research reports analyzing the historical background, achievements, and controversies of Zheng He's voyages; and finally, watch videos created by their classmates and participate in discussions to deeply reflect on this history and discuss its implications for today's globalized society. The project aims to cultivate students' historical thinking, critical thinking, cross-cultural understanding, and multimodal expression skills, while inspiring them to connect and reflect on the relationship between history and reality.
