Projects

Each project is like an adventure journey. As little detectives, we keep asking questions and, with curiosity and courage, try to solve every challenge.

Every year, the Primary and Middle school departments design a variety of interdisciplinary projects across subjects, covering areas such as life education, sustainable development, visual arts, and artificial intelligence. Learners explore the world in farm fields, classrooms, and outdoor spaces, identifying real-world problems and attempting to answer or solve them.

Exploring Trade in West African Countries: Creating a Visual Work Centered on a Proposal

Disciplines/Subjects: Social Science Key Themes: a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind, Trade, West African Countries, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Under the grand vision of the Belt and Road Initiative, China-Africa cooperation is increasingly becoming a global focal point. As a future international relations expert, you will have the opportunity to explore this promising region, applying interdisciplinary knowledge from mathematics, history, and computer science to examine how trade can drive shared prosperity. This project requires you to select a West African country, conduct an in-depth analysis of its trade landscape, identify opportunities and challenges, and write a proposal outlining strategies for economic development. Additionally, you will create a visual piece—whether a poster or video—to present your insights in an engaging and accessible way, helping the public understand and care about West Africa’s future. Through this project, you will enhance your data analysis and problem-solving skills, while learning how to articulate your ideas clearly and persuasively. Your work will be showcased in school gallery corridor and may also be featured on public platforms, allowing more people to witness your efforts and achievements. This is not only an academic leap but also a significant step in personal growth. Let us work together to contribute to the harmonious development of a Community of Shared Future for Mankind, shaping a more equitable and sustainable global trade system for the future.

One more adversity

Disciplines/Subjects: Chinese language Arts Key Themes: Chinese classical novels, whole-book reading, textual analysis, creative writing Journey to the West, a famous work of Chinese classical literature, has a wide spread. It has been adapted into movies, TV series, video games and even theme parks on many occasions. This is a very interesting book. Mr. Lu Xun called it a "god - demon novel", and Mr. Lin Geng regarded it as a "work of childlike innocence". It is one of the most imaginative works in Chinese classical literature. The novel revolves around the main plot of Tang Seng, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Seng, a master-discipline team, going on a pilgrimage to Western Heaven to obtain Buddhist scriptures. It tells many stories of subduing demons and monsters, with twists and turns, exciting and fascinating plots. The whole book is excellent at character - building. Whether it is the main characters of the pilgrimage team or the secondary characters such as various gods, Buddhas, demons and monsters, they are all vividly portrayed, with distinct personalities and unforgettable images. The ideology of the novel is rather complex, involving Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Later generations have diverse interpretations of its theme. Putting aside the religious cloak of the novel, for today's students, this novel may be more like an inspiring story of forging ahead through difficulties for an ideal. In society, some people regard it as a dark fairytale about workplace struggles, some see it as a cultivation guidebook, and some take it as a source of materials for remaking the IP... There are many secondary or even multiple creations that deviate from the original text, resulting in a thousand different pilgrimage stories in the eyes of a thousand readers. In this task, learners will first act as readers, closely and intensively read the original story of Journey to the West. Find their favorite episode from the novel and analyze its plot structure pattern, including how it starts, how it ends, the origin of the monster, and how the team overcomes difficulties. Using the text analysis methods learned in class, analyze this story from five dimensions: theme, structure, word choice, the author's point of view, and the development of the story. Then, as a sequel - writing or rewriting author, give full play to their imagination and create a new story on the pilgrimage journey. Based on understanding the "story routines" of the original work, create one more adversity for the pilgrimage team besides the eighty-one difficulties, achieving the effect of "being almost indistinguishable from the original". Invite readers who are acquaintances of Journey to the West to read it and see if they can sporify whether it is written by you or if it's the original work written by Mr. Wu Chengen. In addition, learners with spare capacity can, on the basis of completing the rewriting or sequel - writing, work further as screenwriters, adapt it into a script, then recruit and form a drama crew, and stage the "one - more - adversity" drama story they created on the stage of the New Year's Gala.

The Editorial project of "A Life as Jade"

Life is like jade, which undergoes the processes of cutting, grinding, and polishing. On the journey of life, we seek the value of ourselves and the meaning of life. Moreover, we can draw nourishment for growth from the experiences of others. As a work that records a person's life stories, a biography is a literary genre that introduces a person's life experiences and achievements. It is an in-depth portrayal of the character, examining various aspects such as the person's thoughts, behaviors, personality, and life background, revealing the person's ideology, culture, and the background of the times. It serves as a record and reflection of the historical, cultural, and social changes of humanity. Through the study of biographical literature and writing practice, learners can perceive the different life experiences in various eras, thus cultivating their empathy. The learners in Grade 8 will become members of the editorial department of the book "A Life as Jade" and publish a biographical literary work for the "she, he, and they" around them. They will divide the work within the team, taking on roles such as author, journalist, editor, designer, and illustrator. They will write short biographies for the "ordinary people" around them. In the process of writing, they will trace the life trajectories of these people under the imprint of the times.

If it is not Sun Wukong...

Disciplines/Subjects: CLA、Performing Arts、Visual Arts、AI Key Themes: Courage、Creativity、Comparing and contrast、Writing The project is based on the story of Journey to the West and begins with a plea for help from Taibai Jinxing (the Star of the White Tiger). Learners are tasked with assisting Taibai Jinxing in designing the journey to the West for Tang Seng. The first challenge of the project is to select the most reliable eldest disciple to escort Tang Seng through the 81 tribulations and successfully obtain the true scriptures. Learners need to conduct research and compare the suitability of Sun Wukong (the Monkey King), Nezha (the Deity with the Third Eye), and Yang Jian (the Deity with the Third Eye) for this role. Additionally, they must create AI avatars that allow these three characters to interact with people from their own perspectives, thereby helping others better understand their characteristics. After selecting the disciple, learners are required to rewrite the classic episode of Journey to the West titled “The Three Strikes Against the White Bone Spirit” based on the chosen character’s traits. They will then adapt this episode into a screenplay and complete a live-action filming or a prop-based performance.
